Red Clover

So yeah... um... about that stuff... So as you know, I picked a load of it and was letting it dry when I last mentioned it. Well, I went out to check on how dry it was getting and when I opened the box, saw that the petals (?) of the flowers were, quite literally, walking away from the box. Ok... this isn't cool, I thought to myself. On closer inspection, I saw what had happened. The small petals/florets, whatever they are called, make perfect houses for insect eggs. What had happened is the eggs had hatched and small caterpillars/larvae of some type of insect, were all walking away from their egg and dragging parts of the Red Clover with it. When I was picking it, I was getting eaten alive by small sandflies as it was not far from a river. I suspect, it was their larvae that were all through the Red Clover. Initially, I decided the best thing to do was to spray it with fly spray, thinking "it won't affect me as I'm not drinking it" but later I started to understand the gravity of the situation and began to face the facts - my precious Red Clover, that I had painstakingly picked over several nights, was a write off and needed to be dumped in its entirety. So, dump it I did.

I later picked another small batch of it from a spot much farther from the water, and left it for a few nights to dry. I haven't seen the same phenomenon, but am a little reluctant to pick as many flowers this time... It's like when you spend ages writing an email to someone, then accidentally delete it before you send it. The second attempt is never as good, and you never spend as much time. That's what this is like. Plus, the fact that Comfrey extract appears to be making so much of a difference is definitely affecting my motivation to look for other treatments.

Comfrey, as it turns out, is a bit of a weed and can be seen in many places in the wild. I've found three different places so far with it in the wild, and have picked leaves from all three places. I'll just make some extract as and when I need it. One leaf's-worth of tea lasts for a couple of weeks.
